(12/07/2011) Texas Panhandle RSVP, along with a coalition of other organizations, joined the Roan Creek Veterans Hospital to host our annual Welcome Home to the Veterans of our area on Sat. Nov. 5, 2011. This annual event began in 2006. The day began with the Veterans Day parade. RSVP's van was an entry in the parade. Following the parade the place to be is the VA lawn. This is our way of visually expressing appreciation & support with emphasis on families. With booths we show what's available to families and retired veterans in our non profit community. With the help of United Supermarkets, Hospice Care of the Southwest, Blue Bell Ice Cream, we feed their bellies. 1500 hundred people came out on a very cool Saturday to show their support for our veterans. United Supermarket donated & cooked 850 hamburgers with all the trimmings and 650 hot dogs. RSVP volunteers registered the attendants and passed out reusable bags filled with information about VA and all the organizations involved. Humana MarketPOINT furnished the American flags for all attendees, and had a booth along with 32 different organizations. Welcome Home this year honored the Army Reserve Unit of the 974th Transport Company, who just returned to Amarillo from an 18 month deployment. We remember that America is the "land of the free" because of our military. We support them and their families in public events like our Welcome Home.
